All About Me
Background
I am Amelia, a musician and teacher with more than 9 years of experience. I started my musical journey at the age of 7, and the rest as they say, is history!
I pursued my interest in Classical Flute at Leeds Conservatoire and completed my PGCE in Secondary Music Education and Instrumental Specialist Training with a woodwind focus at The Royal Northern College of Music. As a Portfolio Musician, I've had the privilege of participating in some incredible performance opportunities, such as being principal flautist for the Northern Cotemporary Collective, conductor of 'Sounds Like This International Festival' and prinical flautist for BBC Love in Leeds.

Fast forward to 2020, I moved to Spofforth Park and started teaching from my music studio. In 2021 I had the amazing opportunity to move aboard and hone my skills as a teacher: fun fact: I learned guitar, ukulele and drums in this time too! Three years later, I'm back home and ready to teach some amazing musicians in our community once again!
What makes me different from other teachers?
Since becoming a fully qualified teacher, I have noticed that music lessons are usually very 'traditional'. Being a classical musician, I was very used to these ways, however, this does not mean it is the 'right way'. Over the past 4 years I have dedicated myself to finding alternative ways of teaching that follow students' love for music to help them achieve their goals, whether that is to learn how to play by ear, improvise, compose, or play songs they hear on the radio... something I hear often is that a student has given up because they 'lost interest' but a lot of the time, it's due to the teacher not listening to the students' goals. This means I offer completely bespoke teaching methods with three different exam boards to compliment this, including ABRSM, Trinity and Rock School London.
